Biodiversity and environment

On the property, each species, animal or plant, has its role to play in the balance of biodiversity and the preservation of the vineyard. It is important to us to identify and safeguard the local fauna and flora, which is why we work in partnership with the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds) on the one hand, and with the Conservatoire Botanique National Sud Atlantique, the Conservatoire du Végétal d'Aquitaine and the association Arbres et Paysages on the other.

Nesting boxes and feeders are available for birds. Bat shelters are placed all around the vineyard. Hedges of indigenous plants have been installed around the vineyard. Fruit trees are planted regularly on the property. Beehives are installed on the property to promote the pollination of trees and flowers in the area.

Respect of the fauna & flora

Our action of reintroducing hedges allows the creation of an ecological corridor and favors the return of birds and insectivorous bats, a natural method of fighting against insect pests of the vine.

Finally, we are committed to a process of continuous improvement of our cultural and environmental practices.

Today, thanks to the investment in new soil working tools, we are in a zero herbicide approach.

Conversion to Organic Agriculture

Since 2021, Château St-Ferdinand is committed to Organic Agriculture. Because the environment is our priority, we respect the natural balance and do not use synthetic pesticides.

You will find the mention "in conversion to organic farming" on our bottles for the 2022 and 2023 vintage, and "AB" from the 2024 vintage.

It is a long process of commitment, although initiated at the beginning, but necessary for agriculture and the generations of tomorrow.

High environmental value

Our farm is certified High Environmental Value level 3 (HVE) since 2020. This guarantees that the agricultural practices used on the entire property preserve the natural ecosystem and minimize the pressure on the environment (soil, water, biodiversity...).

The High Environmental Value (HVE3) corresponds to the highest level of the environmental certification system for farms.
